Leadership Within The Black Community

Leadership within the black community, although seemingly non-existant, lives through local influence, although not the kind of leadership we all have hoped for. The leadership has trasfered from the church committee, politics, and black empowerment groups to the local drug dealer, gang leaders and basketball stars. What has to happen in order for leadership to transfer, is for someone who can identify with the struggle to rise up and take the leadership back. The youth have been programmed through television and advertisement to place priority on sold products and services, emphasizing instant gratification. Someone must be able to grab and hold the attention of the youth in order to cause a change.

  1. How about blacks look at themselves with being a contributor of the destruction of other blacks. BET and pathetic hip hop songs that talk about nothing are just some reasons why blacks don't progress like they should.

  2. I believe that there is a lot of change going on in the black community, however, in the last three community service programs I've been apart of, white people have led the way. This is very disturbing in that it seems like white people are doing more good for our community than successful African- Americans who have the means to do so. Especially African-American men.
