Black America Guide to Home Improvement: Current State

The state of Black America remains in peril. Although we see no firework displays, and there are no huge government debates on CNN telling us the new developments every hour, we are fighting a silent war. As hundreds of black Americans are killed each day, and thousands more arrested, the fight to stay out of the system and out of black on black conflict remains a struggle. I am a young black male living in Baltimore City, and the obstacles and opportunities set before me are from a variety of sources. I write these essays in an attempt to reach someone, to teach someone, that we can surpass our personal limitations, and exceed others expectations if we reunite (there was once unity) and put forth the effort to create change.
In order to improve as a whole, the black community must first answer who, what, when, why, and how our situation has come about, only then can we truly evaluate our current state.

Who?

A. Individuals In Social Structure Roles
Since America is a capitalistic republic, race plays a role, just not as big a role as we perceive. What it all comes down to is wealth and power. The social contract we sign with america when are born allows the few (elected officials) to control the masses (the people of the states) because the masses are unaware, therefore not qualified to decide in good judgement for themselves (as the belief stands). Individuals in powerful roles hold a responsibility to establish a safe and stable environment for the people. The truth is, we all have the power to become aware, but we let distractions (drugs, TV, dwelling on problems) keep us away from the truth.
